The dragonfly does not turn its head back and just keep going straight ahead and such a characteristic is praised by the Japanese warriors. Thus, the dragonfly has come to be thought of the symbol and bringer of Victory. Warriors going into battle - about to face death - made a practice of having the dragonfly represented on their swords and/or armors in order to ensure victory and a safe return home.
